About the Center

In 2003, the Hellinger Institute of Western Pennsylvania was established to promote the principles of Bert Hellinger's phenomenological family systems theory in universities, hospitals, clinics, schools and counseling centers by offering workshops and professional trainings. In 2008, The Center for Behavioral Genetics was formed to provide counseling, training and education to better understand and resolve the effects of trauma and identification in family systems. Workshops and training including monthly courses in The Core Sentence® and Family Constellations are offered.

Mark Wolynn, Director of The Center for Behavioral Genetics, The Hellinger Institute of Northern California, The Hellinger Institute of Western Pennsylvania, and co-director of the Hellinger Learning Center in NYC, is one of North America’s foremost Family Constellation facilitators. He conducts workshops and trainings in family therapy throughout the United States, Canada, England and Latin America. Mark is regular presenter at universities, hospitals, clinics, conferences and teaching centers. He specializes in working with depression, anxiety, obsessive thoughts, fears, panic disorders, self-injury, chronic pain and medical conditions unresponsive to conventional treatment. Suzi Tucker is cofounder with Harald Hohnen of the Bert Hellinger Institute, USA, which launched several of the first trainings in the United States and forged a path for many of those who are working in the States today. As an editor and publisher, Suzi has worked closely with Bert Hellinger and Hunter Beaumont on the various books and videotapes published in the United States, and she continues to work with Bert Hellinger privately as a consultant on his writing. Suzi facilitates workshops regularly, teaches an ongoing Guided Learning in NYC, and writes about the work for various publications. Suzi is coeditor of and a contributor to Messengers of Healing: The Family Constellations of Bert Hellinger Through the Eyes of a New Generation of Facilitators.

Judy Smith coordinates workshops and trainings for the Center,
as well as facilitates systemic workshops in South Africa and 
throughout Texas. Born and raised in South Africa, she has a background in autotransfusion, vascular and hematological technology in the medical field, as well as being a qualified crisis counselor and as a rape crisis counselor and facilitator. She is also an EST trained facilitator. The author of three psychological thrillers, two fantasy books and a children's training manual for crisis counseling, Judy has numerous awards for poetry and has been published in Highlights Magazine for children.

Medical Advisory Board

Adele Towers, MD, MPH
(Associate Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry) has spent 10 years as the Medical Director of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic and is now Vice-Chair of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety for the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Towers provides primary and consultative care to older adults at the UPMC Senior Care-Benedum Geriatric Center located in UPMC Montefiore hospital. Her areas of expertise include treating medical and psychiatric illnesses with both complementary and conventional therapy.


Robert Zieve, MD, (Integrative Medicine)
A board-certified specialist in emergency medicine for more than 20 years, Dr. Zieve combines and integrates homeopathy, biological medicine, neural therapy, acupuncture point therapies, nutrition and intravenous therapies, oxygen therapies and heavy metal detoxification, as well as specializes in using high-frequency, low-dose chemotherapy for cancer treatment. He is medical director of Pine Tree Clinic for Comprehensive Medicine in Prescott, AZ. He is also the author of three books: Healthy Medicine: A Guide to the Emergence of Sensible, Comprehensive Care, Beyond the Medical Meltdown: Creating Sustainable Health Care, and Rhythms In Time: The Homeopathic Future. Todd Wolynn, MD, MMM
(Pediatrics) is a board certified pediatrician (1996) and internationally board certified lactation consultant (1995) and founder of the Breastfeeding Center of Pittsburgh. Dr. Wolynn's areas of interest and specialty, beyond general pediatrics, include breastfeeding, pediatric sleep disorders, vaccine research, complimentary and alternative medicine, and healthcare policy reform. He serves as a staff pediatrician to The Children's Institute and also serves as the consulting medical director to the Allegheny Intermediate Unit for their Center-Based Schools.
